Q: Why did you move to Whistler?
A: I moved out to Vancouver in 1980 from Toronto, I was a weekend warrior till 1990 coming for the skiing and then I moved to Whistler full time.
Q: What did you do when you first arrived?
A: My wife and I, we originally got into the retail business and had a few stores around the village. After a few years I moved into Real Estate.
Q: When did you get into Real Estate?
A: Well I found there was more money in selling a business than operating it.
Q: What do you enjoy about the lifestyle here?
A: Oh well it’s just everything, Summer and Winter, I was an avid skier and I’m still a big golfer. There’s a great lifestyle here.
Q: What advice would you give to someone looking to buy property here?
A: Well I only do commercial,in the past I did both residential and commercial. I suppose Whistler is a great place to start up a business they’ve done a great job with the sprawl. Advice to someone starting a business, it depends on the business, for retail its important to get close to or ideally on the village stroll. For something like a plumbing or a marketing business places out in Function Junction offer great space.
Q: What is your favourite thing about working with your clients?
A: I quite enjoy the people I work with, I’ve worked with a lot of the same people over the last 20 years. So, I really enjoy it!
Q: What is your favourite Season and why?
A: Well it used to be skiing in the Winter and now it’s the golfing in the Summer. So, I’d have to say Summer, I’ve injured myself skiing too many times.
Q: If you were not a real estate agent, what would you be?
A: Retired.. Actually, that’s not true I really enjoy what I do but you just can’t play golf 24/7 so I enjoy the work.
Q: What makes you smile the most?
A: Well I really enjoy doing deals, selling a business is a fairly complex process and it takes maybe six or seven months and so when you succeed it feels really good.
Q: How do you decompress or how would you spend your ideal day?
A: I exercise maybe five or six times a week you know biking or the gym or golf. I used to do a lot of heli-skiing but as you get older you’re not as strong so you’re not as quick, so you have to back off on what you’re challenging yourself with.
Q: What was it like raising a family here?
A: Well I didn’t really my kids were basically adults by the time we moved here full time.
Q: What accomplishment do you consider to be the most significant in your career or in your life?
A: Well in my career I guess I was a chief operating officer of a bank, started up by a few people and that’s what brought me to Vancouver in 1980. We ended up selling it to a big U.S bank for 2.6 times the value which made quite a lot of money for a lot of people and the shareholders.
Q: Finally, in one sentence, why should people come live here?
A: Well it’s just a great lifestyle here.
